Infrastructure Case Study
Clancy Culvert Diversion
Client Kendrick Homes
Location Clancy, Belle Vale, West Midlands
Value £360k
Objective
To replace an existing culvert 185m long through a brown field development site resulting in a doubling of the development site’s capacity for housing.
What did the project involve?
Deep excavation (5m) with operations carried out within trench boxes, laying 1.8m and corrugated culvert sections at 15m/day, with precast concrete manholes and reinforced concrete headwalls. Old Mass concrete foundations
were removed throughout the new culverts routing.
Constraints
The site was a high risk flood area and the project was successfully completed despite the heaviest rainfall (2007) since records began and where the existing culvert’s increased flow had to be maintained and the outfall headwall constructed within a cofferdam in a rising river.
Additionally
Live sewage siphons within the culvert alignment were accommodated by an Adroit team who constantly rethought the methodology of both temporary and permanent works to suit the ever changing weather and circumstances.
