Scope
Located on the fringe of Snowdonia at the base of the famous Vyrnwy Reservoir & surrounded by 24000 acres of nature reserve. The turbine house & local reserve was recently visited by BBC Spring Watch where they encountered some of the rarest & charismatic wildlife.
Lake Vyrnwy Hydro regeneration scheme consists of removing two 45.2kW horizontal shaft turbines c.1940 replacing with a single reconditioned horizontal shaft 'turgo' turbine & induction generator to produce approx 115kW @ 750rpm
The Contract package involved the installation of new pipework actuated valving, PRV system, concrete bases, lifting equipment, electrical interconnections & building services.
Our scope of supply was under CDM regulation covered the Provision & management of all on site activities for the contract duration. Removal of all existing equipment, replacing in readiness for the turbine installation (Gilkes)
The building is grade 1 listed so we had to be careful not to damage any of the existing building fabrics & ensure that we did not under any circumstances change the external appearance. In addition the only building access was by means of an old timber door.
